‘Vistas’ came from the silence and solitude of Covid 19 lockdowns. As I observed places in and around Adams County Pennsylvania I realized the missing nuances of land forms when viewed through digital media. Standing out doors… alone, I noticed ridge lines, shapes of color and texture in the land and open spaces that were missing in the digital photograph.
In exploring 'Vistas', I delve into profound themes that resonate deeply with the human condition during a time of unprecedented change. The landscapes of isolation and tranquility became our new reality. The juxtaposition of silence amid the chaos of the pandemic underscores how solitude serves as an opportunity for awareness.
As I work to develop each vista I am reminded of all that and those who are also missing nuances due to the silencing from Covid. Exploring ridge lines, in this sense, becomes a ‘gotcha’ to the machine and constant barrage of images that are void of humanity in a data driven, digital world. In this sense one might be able to enjoy a unique ‘hide and seek’ of humanity while in an ever artificial experience in the modern era.
