HIGH HEELED FARMER
I made the shift from “classroom to cropland” in January 2024. Sustainable farming has more recently captured significant attention as more individuals seek healthy alternatives with traditional farming methods. Yet, this has been a fifteen year process for me… with careful counsel, practice and research. Join me as I explore the world from a truly unique perspective. A farmer, a gatherer, and an artist who is choosing words to convey family tradition, knowledge of nature and that practice in today’s culture. By weaving insights into past practice, local lore, and current health and environmental benefits, I aim to shed light on pathways to the beauty of nature's resources and the enjoyment of learning and living with the future in mind.
From high school art teacher to regenerative farming:
As a high school art teacher, I have always been dedicated to nurturing creativity and fostering a sense of community among my students. My transition to regenerative farming arises from a deep desire to integrate environmental stewardship and artistic expression into my life.
This shift allows me to connect with the land and honor the rich cultural heritage of farming traditions in America. This comes honestly as both my husband and my parents resourced a living from their land. In many times this was the only way they were able to survive. Embracing regenerative practices represents not just a career change but also a commitment to a future where art and agriculture come together to convey the stories of our environment, our people, and our legacy.
Throughout my teaching career, I have observed how art serves as a powerful medium for storytelling, encouraging young minds to think critically about their surroundings. I have witnessed students transform ordinary projects into compelling narratives, using their creativity to address significant issues and environmental curiosities.
This experience has highlighted for me the intrinsic connection between human expression and nature. By moving into regenerative farming, I aim to cultivate not only food, household products and happiness but also relationships within the community—drawing parallels between nurturing the earth and nurturing the spirit.
Ultimately, my goal is to foster a deeper appreciation for our shared ecological heritage.
